Aakruti Residence

"But , in our opinion , the difference that an architect can bring to a construction project is the degree of “livability” – the small touches that differentiate a house that we adjust to and a home that surrounds us with natural comfort" At the outset, we would like to thank Architect Prathima Seethur and her team for the opportunity to voice our appreciation and gratitude in the tremendous role that they played in the construction of our home “AAKRUTI” at Rajarajeshwari Nagar. The fact that both my wife and myself are software professionals by trade and absolute novices when it came to house construction would have been pretty apparent by the way we originally approached Prathima with a series of pictures (both clandestinely taken from the neighbourhood and scavenged from the internet ) and requested her to basically do a copy-paste job of putting together our dream abode. Rather than taking the easy route , Prathima took the trouble of educating us on our choices , the scale of the project and most importantly, the impact it could have on our purses. Industry standards dictate that the traditional role of an architect is to produce an engineering plan for the project and in the process, introduce extravagant finishes and grandiose “designer” designs that look fantastic in pictures of an architecture magazine. But , in our opinion , the difference that an architect can bring to a construction project is the degree of “livability” – the small touches that differentiate a house that we adjust to and a home that surrounds us with natural comfort . This is the difference that the Wright inspires team brings to the table – the small touches that make a world of difference in the end. When we moved into our new home, it just felt “right” immediately – All thanks to Prathima and her team . Prathima was a very hands on architect – most of the time sacrificing weekends to ensure that she channels our thought processes in making the several decisions that go into the project. Even small things like selection of tile or selection of a paint color – Prathima was ALWAYS around in person and our options and the relative pros & cons were clearly explained so that we can make an educated decision. We were blessed with a fantastic team that came recommended by Prathima ; The Wright Inspires team along with the team of Balaji constructions ( managed by Mr. Srinivas and project lead Mr.Aftab Pasha ) , Mr.Giridhar (Electricals) and Mr.Suresh (Interiors) were an absolute delight to work with. They were keen to listen, quick to understand and efficient in implementation. My heartfelt thanks to the entire team for making the entire process so peaceful. I hear people speaking about the stress in building their homes, the agony of unfinished projects , problems with finances / budget over-runs and the heartburn of perennially delayed homes ; Short of rubbing it in , all we can say is it was a pleasure dealing with Prathima and her team right through the construction project. Our home is always available as a readymade reference and we would be more than happy to personally vouch for her any number of times.

"Prathima and her team are outstanding ! The best I have worked with and helped us realize our beautiful home." "Prathima and her team are outstanding ! The best I have worked with and helped us realize our beautiful home. The competence manifests both in the great quality of architectural work and the great team for civil, electrical. Interiors, plumbing and so on assembled by them. To watch them work and see an idea come alive is in itself a great experience. In addition, prathima is very accessible and always available to have a chat and discuss. The relationship with the team is being one of friends vs a conventional client relationship and this makes the often intimidating task of constructing a house very accessible."

Aprameya Residence

"Engaging Wright Inspires took the stress out of building a house. Given a free-hand, the right architect can probably do a better job than one can imagine." "In our opinion, project 'Aprameya' was quite challenging considering that it had to cater to a clientele consisting of two generations of the same household. Given a relatively limited space, the requirement was to design a contemporary living space to suit our lifestyle while seamlessly integrating our cultural and emotional sensibilities. Further, having a part of the clientele live abroad during the course of construction presented certain geographical challenges that had to be addressed while selecting the architect. Prathima Seethur’s Wright Inspires came in highly recommended and after a brief discussion and a tour of her previous projects, we entrusted her with the responsibility of realizing our dreams. Every interaction with Prathima and her team through the various stages of the project was an enlightening experience. In addition to the conventional areas of our home, sprinkling of flora throughout the house blends various parts of the home into one calming living space which is in tune with nature. Engaging Wright Inspires took the stress out of building a house. Given a free-hand, the right architect can probably do a better job than one can imagine. Communication, trust and inter-personal relationship are the corner-stones of a successful client-architect relationship. We are indeed fortunate that what began as a professional relationship has been forged into a good friendship. Thank you Prathima Seethur and the Wright Inspires team; it was indeed a pleasure working with you.

"Many times have I written about the modest little home that the wonderful Jaisim Krishna Rao and Prathima Seethur built for us in Bangalore." Many times have I written about the modest little home that the wonderful Jaisim Krishna Rao and Prathima Seethur built for us in Bangalore. Next only to our fabulous family and friends and the clement weather (despite climate change decline in recent years) in Bangalore, our home is what entices us to make frequent visits. Well, the philosophical underpinnings of the Rao- Seethur architecture -- interplay of open spaces, air, light etc, the sourcing of local materials, the organics of the home etc -- goes back to, among others, Balkrishna Doshi, who was today honored with the #PritzkerPrize, which is the #Nobel equivalent for architecture and the highest honor in the profession. Previous winners include I.M.Pei, Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, among others -- Doshi is the first Indian to be honored with it.   You can read all about it in the papers, but among the many charming anecdotes associated with the building of our home, I'll recall one. I wanted a large living room with a high domed ceiling, but I was concerned that there would be too much echo in such a structure. The conversation with Jaisim went like this. Jaisim: "So what is an echo and how does it happen?" Me: "When sound hits a flat surface and bounces back" Jaisim: "Well then we won't have a flat surface" Thus it came to be that our home has a high curved ceiling that is serrated and not flat...and no echo. People like Jaisim and Doshi simplify life -- and architecture. Another time, I mused with him about how in the U.S I had noticed that during parties all our friends congregated around the kitchen/dining area, and how it had the most footprint and so much of our life revolved around the kitchen. He produced for us a kitchen from where we can now cook, look out at the front entrance, back entrance, a kitchen garden to the side, observe the various daily transactions (milkman, vegetable vendor, paperwala) plus also engage with guests in the dining area and in the living room (effectively we can cook and talk to people facing them; most kitchens in India have cooking range against the wall which means you have your back to your guests). More on all this later, but for now Balkrishna Doshi...

Hosabelaku Residence

"We are extremely glad that we chose Prathima Seethur from Wright Inspires to make our dream home project come true." The making of HOSABELAKU, our dream home! We are extremely glad that we chose Prathima Seethur from Wright Inspires to make our dream home project come true. We wanted to have a well lit and ventilated, nature friendly home. Though it wasn’t a fresh project, she had to renovate an already existing duplex house. Prathima considered priorities of all our family members, on how we are wanted our space to look and what was the utility of each space for each of us. She made sure at each level of the construction our opinions andsuggestions were considered and brought to reality. Finally we saw that we had our dream home with ample natural light, good ventilation, nature friendly flooring, pergolas, ample space for indoor and outdoor gardening with parking space, all in a 30*40 plot. The transformation was phenomenal! We are thankful to the entire team who took care of all the detailing that we expected in our dream home - HOSABELAKU.

2. Conceptual Design

Drawing inspiration from your vision and the unique characteristics of your property, we will translate your dreams into initial design concepts:

  • Site Visit & Evaluation: A thorough site visit allows the team to assess the land's features, natural elements, and surrounding environment. This understanding is key to designing a home that integrates seamlessly with its surroundings.

  • Conceptualizing Your Dream Home: Based on your discussions and the site analysis, we shall present initial design concepts. These might involve sketches, mood boards, or 3D models to help you visualize the possibilities for your dream home.

3. Planning

Collaborative planning refines the conceptual design to ensure it aligns with your needs and budget:

  • Open Communication & Feedback: We prioritize open communication throughout the process. You'll have ample opportunities to provide feedback on the proposed designs, ensuring the final plan reflects your preferences.

  • Refining the Design: Through discussions and revisions, the design will be honed, incorporating your feedback and ensuring it aligns with your budget and site constraints.

4. Execution Team Selection

With a finalized plan in place, the focus shifts towards selecting the team to bring your vision to life:

  • Partnering for Success: We assist you in working with our partner teams - qualified and experienced builders, contractors, and other specialists to execute the construction phase. We also work with external contractor teams

"Also, in our case, we’d asked to design such that we will never need an AC and that is indeed becoming true!" As we enter our 6th month in the new house designed and constructed by Wright Inspires, we rewind back to our 24 month journey ! Team Wright Inspiresengaged really well in advance and noted down the requirements before sending any template drawings/designs. I liked that approach, very few take the effort to understand the client requirements, site location, neighbourhood, position of the sun throughout the day etc into consideration. Loved that approach because, at the end of the day, those thought processes show their impact in the finished structure with amazing light patterns and ventilation during the day and night Moving a step ahead, after multiple sittings and finalization, a systematic approach to arrive at the ballpark estimate is prepared. Almost everything is included in the estimate and shared with the owner upfront, so as to get an understanding of the costs involved and where things can be added / removed – again, a very good practice, so that everyone knows the budget with which they are working with Post finalization, before actual work starts, lot of time and effort is put at the drawing with respect to the structure, i.e. the structural drawings from a certified agency. The focus and priority on safety and ensuring no corners are cut is commendable. Moreover, special effort is made to align the pillars so as to not obstruct/impede free movement inside the structure without compromising structural integrity Once the structural drawings are ready, regular visits at site and day long meetings to move to the next step/level are very useful. Many a time, a decision about certain elements is best left to them, since they have the expertise to envisage how the finished product looks like – believe me, at no stage till the finish, can one envisage how the house is turning out to be. A lot of focus and priority is given to the design of the house in terms of light and air, you can never get less of it. Also, in our case, we’d asked to design such that we will never need an AC and that is indeed becoming true! The essence of Wright Inspires is the creativity of spaces and elements in the house. Be it a seater, Fenestration wall, wood work, vault roof, Skylight, projections, bay window or stairwell – each one of these is given good thought on paper as complete s well as at – site. The impact of these elements is known only after the house i Another critical aspect that makes the entire exercise of building the house enjoyable is the concept of a team. Be it Prasad and team (Engineering the walls, floors and roofs), Partiban (Wood Magician) , Shivakumar and Ramesh (Steel Kings) , Giridhar (Source of Light) Attention to detail, Professionalism and aesthetic approach to everything makes every element of the house stand apart, even mundane elements like the stair rail OR bathroom door OR wardrobe shutters, they all get a new meaning To sum it, lot of time spent on design is worth it, being patient and understanding the point of view of the team in charge of building your house pays off well In terms of what could have been better, a few places , during heavy rain, there are water leaks at the junction of the wall and ledge, those should be avoided while executing, more attention is required during that phase.

"We were really quite impressed by the design, the architecture, the use of materials, all that stuff."
