When Ar. Prathima and her team of suave architects visited the old dilapidated printing press building in the INdustrial area of Peenya, Bengaluru for the first time, she was certain that this structure is perfect for the shooting of a Super Star Rajnikanth action film. Only she had the belief that could transform it into a vibrant manufacturing facility for a soon-to-be-big industrial cooling company looking to provide a state-of-the-art work place for its blue and white collar personnel.
With several structural constraints of the Previous built form, the Place was designed to be nested around clay blocks and glass slits. The re-architecture included replanning and designing of the entire built form - both interior and exterior.
Strategically Placed clay block walls and filler slabs, reduced the ambient temperature and thus thermal comfort achieved in all the spaces, removing the need for artificial cooling.Package wood partitions added a sense of lightness to the space.
Vertical clay block fins ensure that the industrial building is protected from direct sunlight. The spaces are clearly distinguished with fabric partitions on one side and storage cabinets on the other side.
Shop floors are well lit through skylights and vertical light slits. The terracotta blocks add character and cools down the spaces.
