Advaya, designed for a family of six, embodies simplicity, functionality, and nostalgic charm. The design responds to the clients' desire for traditional living by prioritizing a spacious, open layout on the main floor, facilitating easy movement for the elderly. The living room's strategic orientation towards a verdant outdoor tree not only provides a soothing visual backdrop but also serves to filter harsh western sunlight. Throughout the home, the use of clay and terracotta materials imbues a sense of warmth and ensures natural cooling, reminiscent of traditional architectural practices.
The site's natural contours are utilized to extend a spacious partial basement beneath the southeast slope, providing versatile space for various activities. At road level, a discreetly positioned car park enhances spatial efficiency, seamlessly integrating with the surroundings.
Strategically positioned throughout the structure, filler slabs effectively block unwanted heat transfer, ensuring a cool and comfortable indoor environment, amidst scorching temperatures. Their thermal insulation properties not only reduce the need for mechanical cooling systems but also contribute to long-term energy saving, aligning with sustainable design principles.
Beyond their functional benefits, filler slabs add a distinctive visual element to Advaya’s engaging narrative. The earthy tones and textured surfaces harmonize seamlessly with the traditional elements.
The second floor features three bedrooms, with two positioned to face west, naturally receiving abundant daylight. To enhance the spatial dynamics, one of the bedrooms is slightly elevated, creating private and functional seating areas within the circulation space. A laundry utility room, discreetly placed into a corner, utilizes natural terracotta jaalis to ensure constant ventilation. Advaya, meaning ‘without second’ or ‘unique’ is the culmination of this union of understated elements.
